Ernest worked with four young actors from the New Wolsey Young Company, together with its Associate Director Rob Salmon, to create a guide to becoming a young theatre maker.
The Arts Council England Strategic Touring Programme supported the New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich, Birmingham Repertory Theatre and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse to create new work with young people for young people. The project created four original works over two years, starting with ‘Frequently Asked Questions: a 10 step guide to adult life by teenagers’ and ending with ‘Births, Deaths & Marriages’ both from the New Wolsey Theatre, with Birmingham Repertory Theatre Young Rep’s ‘Tweet Tweet’, and Liverpool Young Everyman & Playhouse’s ‘Half Baked’ in between.
You The Makers is a short film designed to share the participants learning, specifically what advice they would give to the next generation of young theatre makers wanting to follow in their footsteps.
It’s not just for young people wanting to make theatre, it’s also for anyone making theatre with young people, and programmers of venues looking for young audiences.
